Max Barack

Max Barack (born February 26, 1832 in Durlach , † September 1, 1901 in Stuttgart ) was a dialect writer, poet and major from Baden .

Life

His father was the Grand Ducal Baden government councilor Michael Barack, whose father was in turn a monastery bailiff in Rastatt .

Barack embarked on a military career in the Baden Army and rose to major. From October 26, 1867 to March 24, 1868 he was a captain of the Leib-Grenadier-Regiment in Karlsruhe. He then came to the 3rd Infantry Regiment No. 111 as a company commander and took part in the siege of Strasbourg during the war against France . Due to his health, he was retired after the peace treaty with the statutory pension and the right to wear the regimental uniform. 1878 Barack was still the character as a major.

After his departure he moved to Stuttgart. There he worked as a writer, at the beginning also under the pseudonym "BA Rack". He wrote in Standard German and, although not born or raised in the Palatinate, in Palatinate dialect .

On September 8, 1867, he married Luise Hoff, who was born in Mannheim. The marriage resulted in four children: one of the sons was a captain in the infantry regiment "von Lützow" (1st Rheinisches) No. 25 in Rastatt, another medical officer in Saarlouis, the third senior physician in Aachen. His daughter was married to the composer and conductor Josef Krug-Waldsee .
