Max Brunner (born March 19, 1910 in Solothurn ; † March 20, 2007 in Hasle near Burgdorf , resident in Berikon (AG)) was a Swiss painter who was mainly known for his glass painting work.

Life

Max Brunner lost his father, a tinsmith, to a flu epidemic in 1918. Max Brunner attended the teachers' college in Solothurn from 1926 to 1930, and from 1931 to 1969 he was a primary school teacher in Unterramsern SO , where he also lived until 1992. In 1930 he attended the Colarossi Academy for a short time. He married Martha Bisegger in 1934, with whom he had five children. On his honeymoon in Paris in 1934, he also got to know Chartres Cathedral , whose stained glass windows impressed him. After his return he submitted a design for new glass windows in a competition for the church in the neighboring village of Messen SO , which was chosen to his surprise. A representation of the resurrection of Christ was created in collaboration with the glass workshop Halter from Bern.

It was only after his retirement in 1969 that he became more artistically active, creating mosaics , frescoes , sgraffiti , tapestries and paintings in oils and watercolors . He taught himself the artistic technique to a large extent. In the course of time he created windows in glass-lead and glass-concrete technology for around 30 churches in the cantons of Bern and Solothurn , also for the cemetery chapel in Hasle near Burgdorf , the center of his life later. Also able discs in various town halls come from him.

He set designs for the exhibitions Landi in 1939 and for the Expo 2000 in front, for the Expo 1964 , he created the appearance of Solothurn. He was one of the co-founders of the Künstlerhaus S11 in Solothurn, where several exhibitions of his works were shown.

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, some of his works were shown in the Zürcher Stalder gallery in Lyssach .
