Max Preglau

Max Preglau (born March 28, 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian sociologist .

After graduating from high school in 1969, Preglau studied social and economic sciences at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 1974 the graduation followed . In 1975/76 he completed postgraduate studies in sociology. In 1976/77 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Advanced Studies and Scientific Research (IHS) in Vienna. In 1977 he was in sociology at the Vienna University of Economics to Dr. rer. soc. oec. PhD . This was followed by assistance at the Institute for Sociology at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Innsbruck . In 1985 he completed his habilitation in sociology and was qualified to teach, in 1991 he became professor of sociology there. From 1991 to 2001 and from 2003 to 2006 he headed the Innsbruck Institute for Sociology.

From 1991 to 2005 he was visiting professor at the University of Trento and the International School of Tourism in Bruneck, South Tyrol . He also gave guest lectures in the United States and Turkey . In 2006/07 he was a Joseph Schumpeter Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University in Cambridge , Massachusetts , 2011 Distinguished Austrian Visiting Chair Professor at The Europe Center of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University in Stanford , California and in 2015 Fulbright -Botstiber Visiting Professor for Austria and American Studies at the Department of Government of the University of Texas at Austin in Austin , Texas .

His main research interests include a. Theory and methodology of sociology, social order and development of postmodern societies with a focus on work, family and social issues. Preglau is a member of the Austrian Society for Sociology , the Austrian Society for Gender Studies and the European Sociological Association . He is also a committee member of the funding programs of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .
