Max Roßdeutscher (born June 9, 1893 in Weißenfels , † April 9, 1979 in Magdeburg , Saxony-Anhalt ) was a German sculptor , restorer and sculptor.

Life

Max Roßdeutscher was the son of a bricklayer and site manager and, after attending elementary school in Weißenfels, completed an apprenticeship as a stone mason and stone sculptor in Halle.

From 1911 he studied at the art schools in Halle , Leipzig and Dresden . In 1923 he moved with his family from Weißenfels to Magdeburg, where he was head of the Magdeburg Dombauhütte from 1926 to 1928 and restored the west facade of Magdeburg Cathedral .

In 1930 Roßdeutscher set up his workshop and studio in Große Diesdorfer Straße in Magdeburg and after the Second World War he mainly created handicraft grave monuments and devoted himself to sculptural tasks, such as the restoration of the facade of the old Magdeburg town hall in 1951 and other buildings on Magdeburg Cathedral Square the Wallraveschen Freyhaus 1956.

Max Roßdeutscher mainly worked in stone and bronze, one-sided paralysis forced him to exclusively work in plastic from the mid-1960s.

Max Roßdeutscher was the founder of a generation of sculptors, his son Eberhard and his son Wolfgang became well-known sculptors.
