Maya Sar

Maya Sar (born July 12, 1981 in Tuzla ; actually Maja Sarihodžić ), also MayaSar , is a Bosnian singer and songwriter . She represented her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku .

biography

Maya Sar attended the Music Academy in Sarajevo , where she graduated with a degree in piano. In the following years she appeared as a background singer and worked with artists such as Tony Cetinski , Jacques Houdek , Emina Jahović , Hanka Paldum and Igor Vukojević . In 2004 Sar supported her compatriot Deen in the backing vocal , who finished ninth in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Istanbul with the English-language title In the Disco . Sar was a member of Dino Merlin's band for several years . In 2011 she accompanied Merlin's English-Bosnian song Love in Rewind as a piano player and singer . At the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf , the entry reached sixth place in the final.

As a solo artist, Sar drew attention to herself in Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 2010 when she published the ballad Nespretno (German: " clumsy "). With Moj je život moja pjesma (German: “My life is my song”) she started an action to fight cervical cancer , for which she wrote the song of the same name and together with the Serbian Aleksandra Radović , the Croatian Nina Badrić and interpreted by the Macedonian Karolina Gočeva . This earned her an award from the International League of Humanists (ILH). She also recorded the music for the Bosnian film productions Sasvim lično by Nedžad Begović and Go West by Ahmeda Imamović (both in 2005).

In mid-December 2011, Maya Sar was internally appointed by the national television broadcaster BHRT to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan . Sar wrote her ESC contribution Korake ti znam herself, while her husband Mahir Sarihodžić and the Italian composer Adriano Pennino took care of the arrangement . The ballad was recorded in Pennino's recording studio in Rome with the Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta and presented to the public on March 15th in Sarajevo. On May 24, 2012 Maya Sar appeared with Korake ti znam in the second semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest and qualified for the final two days later, where she finished in 18th place.

Her debut album Krive Riječi was released in 2013 .

Maya Sar is married to the music producer Mahir Sarihodžić. Both operate the joint recording studio Long Play in Sarajevo .
