Mayssa Raquel de Oliveira Pessoa (born September 11, 1984 in João Pessoa ) is a Brazilian handball player .

Life

Pessoa was under contract with French first division club Issy Paris from 2011. In October 2012, the goalkeeper moved to the Russian club GK Dynamo Volgograd to compensate for the injury-related loss of the regular goalkeeper Anna Sedoikina . With Volgograd, she won the championship in 2013 and 2014. In summer 2014 she joined the Romanian first division club CSM Bucharest . With CSM Bucharest she won the championship in 2015 and 2016 and the Romanian Cup in 2016. She also won the EHF Champions League with Bucharest in 2016 . In the final she saved a total of two seven meters in the seven-meter throw. In 2016 she moved to the Macedonian first division club ŽRK Vardar SCBT . With Vardar she won the Macedonian Championship and the Macedonian Cup in 2017. Since the summer of 2017, Pessoa has been under contract with the Russian first division club GK Rostov-on-Don . With Rostov she won the Russian championship in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Pessoa took part with the Brazilian national handball team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . At the Olympics, she was one of 20 athletes who openly professed her homosexuality . In 2013 she won the Pan American Championship with Brazil. In the same year she managed to win the world championship . At the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto , she won the gold medal. She also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
