McLeansboro is a small town and the administrative seat of Hamilton County in the south of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 McLeansboro had 2945 residents.

The city is named after William B. McLean , who owned the land for the founding of the city.

Illinois State Routes 14 , 142 and 242 meet in McLeansboro . A railway line also runs through the city.

Interstate 64 runs 19.5 km north of the city in a west-east direction and is the shortest connection from St. Louis , Missouri (174 km west) to Louisville , Kentucky (276 km east).

Interstate 57 is 22 miles west of McLeansboro . This connects Chicago (493 km to the north) with Memphis , Tennessee (416 km to the south).
