McMafia is a British - American television series based on a book of the same name by Misha Glenny and has been aired since January 1, 2018.
BBC has ordered a second season. The series will air on AMC in the US, but the network has not yet made a decision on whether to extend it.

Alex Godman, the son of Russian mafia exiles who grew up in England, has spent his life escaping the shadows of his family's past, building his own legal business and forging a life with his girlfriend Rebecca - he wants a decent and with her live an honest life. To do this, he actually left his mafia family behind, but a failed murder planned by his family pulls Alex back into the criminal underworld and into globally organized crime.

History of origin
The series is based on the novel McMafia: Seriously Organized Crime by Misha Glenny and was co-produced by the BBC, AMC and Cuba Pictures. Directed by James Watkins .
Filming took place in Croatia and the United Kingdom . In Croatia the film was shot in Zagreb , Opatija , Split and on the island of Pag . Filming took place in London in early 2017. Filming was finished at the beginning of July 2017.
In December 2017, Decca Records released the title track, which was written by Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann and recorded by the London Contemporary Orchestra , as a download. The piece He's Home was also published at the same time.
The eight-episode first season has been broadcast since January 1, 2018. The soundtrack was designed by Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann and released on March 2nd, 2018 by Decca Records.
