The medal “For heroic work” ( Russian Медаль “За трудовую доблесть” ) was a civilian award of the Soviet Union , which honored particularly deserving workers for dedicated and valuable work or significant contributions in the fields of science, culture or manufacturing. The award was established on December 27, 1938 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR . During its existence of a little over fifty years, the medal was awarded to nearly two million deserving citizens. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the medal was no longer awarded.
