Mehmet Gürcan Daimagüler (born January 16, 1968 in Eiserfeld - Niederschelden , today Siegen ) is a German lawyer , columnist and author . The business lawyer , management consultant and former politician was temporarily a member of the Federal Board of the FDP and honorary chairman of the Liberal Turkish-German Association from the 1990s . Life

The son of Turkish migrant workers attended elementary, secondary and advanced school in Siegen and passed the high school diploma. Afterwards Daimagüler studied economics , law and philosophy at the University of Bonn, among others . During his studies he was a member of the Corps Guestphalia Bonn and Corps Guestfalia Greifswald from 1990 . He earned a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School .

Between 1989 and 1996 he was the assistant to the FDP politician Gerhart Baum , the FDP MP Wolfgang Kubicki and the Bundestag Vice President Burkhard Hirsch in the German Bundestag . In 1996 Daimagüler was a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in New York. In 1997 he was elected to the federal executive committee of the FDP. In 2007 he resigned from the party.

On February 21, 2008, he was admitted to the bar by the Berlin Bar Association.

In 2015, Daimagüler was a lawyer for the co-plaintiffs in the Lüneburg Auschwitz trial against Oskar Gröning . Daimaguler also represents the accessory prosecution in the case of the Altena arson attack .

The World Economic Forum in Davos named him in 2005 at the initiative of Gerhard Schröder to the Young Global Leader .

Daimaguler is a member of the Atlantic Bridge . Ignatz Bubis had proposed him there as a “Young Leader”.

The Harvard Kennedy School honored him in 2010 with the “Emerging Global Leader Award” formerly known as the “Rising Star Award”.

In November 2017, the German-Turkish Forum Stuttgart awarded Daimagüler the Manfred Rommel Prize for its commitment to equal opportunities and against structural racism .
