My wife, the actress is a French feature film directed by Yvan Attal in 2001 . It was Attal's debut feature film as a director; he also took on the leading roles with his girlfriend Charlotte Gainsbourg.

action

Yvan works as a sports journalist for television. He lives in Paris with his wife Charlotte, a well-known actress. His brother Vincent also lives here with his wife Nathalie, who is expecting a child. There are tensions between the expectant parents because the Jewish Nathalie hardly lives her faith, but absolutely wants her child to be circumcised if it turns out to be a boy. She also likes names like Moses and Abraham for the child. Yvan withdraws from the dispute, which is being carried out more and more loudly, because he has problems of his own. His wife has just finished a movie in which she has an erotic scene. A friend of Nathalie's asks Yvan if he wouldn't mind if his wife kisses other men in the film or sleeps with them. Yvan admittedly is calm, but the conversation has awakened his already latent jealousy.

Charlotte is currently shooting a film in London for several weeks with the famous actor John. Yvan follows her and is on the set. He questions Charlotte's relationship to her film partner and also her attitude to nude and bed scenes. Charlotte then had doubts. She no longer feels comfortable with a scheduled bed scene and asks the director to shoot the scene in such a way that her nudity in front of the camera is not necessary. The director refuses and Charlotte accuses him of only wanting to see her naked. Either everyone is naked during the shoot or nobody, she concluded. When Yvan, who has meanwhile returned to Paris in an argument, reappears on the set with flowers, he sees all the crew members doing their work naked while Charlotte is filming the bed scene with John. Confused, John leaves and is only with difficulty convinced by Charlotte on the phone that the director has only implemented a not very serious reply from Charlotte to make it easier for the actress to film the scene. He later reappears on set after hearing that her film partner, John, is a heartthrob. When he assumes through suggestive questions that his wife is having an affair with John and she questions their relationship, he leaves for Paris.

On Nathalie's advice, Yvan tries to empathize with his wife and her work. He enrolled in an acting course and met the young Géraldine there. She does not know that he is married to the famous Charlotte. They both practice a scene together and Géraldine flirts with Yvan. She kisses him on his doorstep when Charlotte is getting out of the taxi. She has one day off and wanted to surprise Yvan. Now she gets back into the taxi and drives away. Yvan finds out that she is in town and goes to see her. Both speak out and make up.

Some time later, the shooting of the film is over. Nathalie and Vincent have become the parents of a son who will be called Moses and will be circumcised. Nathalie prevailed and Vincent gave in. Charlotte is delighted with the baby. A little later she and Yvan come home. John left the message on the answering machine that he had a film role for Charlotte alongside Leonardo DiCaprio . But Charlotte goes to Yvan for another reason: she's pregnant. Spontaneously she plays the heavily pregnant, exhausted woman in front of him with a fake ball belly.
