Melbourne Jazz Festival

The Melbourne International Jazz Festival is a bi-weekly jazz festival held in Melbourne every two weeks in June . It has existed since 1998 with a few interruptions.

Performance venues are scattered across the city, including both concert halls and clubs.

There were, among others, Chick Corea , Gary Burton , Branford Marsalis , Mark Murphy , Brad Mehldau , Dave Liebman , Pharoah Sanders , McCoy Tyner , Abdullah Ibrahim , James Morrison , Cindy Blackman , Bill Frisell , Terence Blanchard , Bill Frisell, Charles Lloyd , Peter Brötzmann , Han Bennink , John Abercrombie , Avishai Cohen , Sonny Rollins (2011),Joshua Redman , Charlie Haden and Vijay Iyer .

In 2012 McCoy Tyner performed with Chris Potter and José James , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Patti Austin , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Hiromi Uehara and Terence Blanchard .

In 2013, Cassandra Wilson , Christian McBride , Mike Stern , Chucho Valdés , Kneebody, Maria Schneider performed with Darcy James Argue and the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, James Carter .

Artistic direction was taken over by Albert Dadon (who had been chairman of the festival company since 2004) after Carlo Pagnotta (director of Umbria Jazz ) had tried his luck for a year. They were dissatisfied with the balance of the festival in relation to Australian musicians.
