Melchior Gommar Tieleman

Melchior Gommar Tielemann (first names also Maerten Franz , Martin François and Maerten Frans ; last names also Tieleman and Tielemans or Melchior Thielemann ; * July 8, 1784 in Lierre ; † December 31, 1864 ibid) was a Belgian painter , drawing teacher and academy director as well Royal Hanoverian court painter .

Life

Melchior Gommar Tielemann studied in Antwerp at the Academy of Fine Arts there with Willem Jacob Herreyns and in Paris at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture with Jacques-Louis David .

During the so-called " French period " Tielemann worked as a teacher at various drawing schools ; first in the Belgian city of Hasselt , then in England , and finally in the Electorate of Hanover or Electorate of Hanover, ruled in personal union between Great Britain and Hanover . Here he was in the orphaned royal seat of Hanover and after the elevation to the Kingdom of Hanover by the Duke of Cambridge, the Governor or Viceroy of Hanover Adolph Friedrich in 1816 was elevated to the Royal Hanoverian Court Painter.

A lithograph with the “Portrait of Heinrich Wilhelm Hahn senior (1760–1831)” from the first third of the 19th century, which later became part of the “sheet collections of the former library of the German Booksellers Association”, was attributed to Tieleman.

For an oil painting of herself, the Hanoverian explorer and astronomer Caroline Herschel modeled her portrait painter Tieleman eight times before he delivered her finished portrait to her on March 26, 1829, one day before his return to Belgium, where he followed a call to professor near Antwerp : Until his death, Tieleman worked artistically in his hometown at the same time as the director of the Academie Lier .
