Melita Isidora Abraham Schüssler (born July 7, 1997 in San Pedro de la Paz ) is a Chilean rower. She took part in the 2016 Olympic Games for Chile together with Josefa Vila in the lightweight double scull.

Career

In 2014 Melita Abraham first took part in the junior world championships in rowing , which were held at the water sports center Hamburg-Allermöhe . Together with her sister Antonia Abraham , she took part in two without a helmsman . The two reached the A final, where they finished fifth with a time of 8: 41.510 minutes. With this achievement, the two qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China . Compared to the Junior World Championships, the youth games only covered a distance of 1000 meters. In the A final, the sisters took fifth place with a time of 3: 39.89 minutes.

On May 8, 2015, the two took part in the International Bled Regatta and only reached the B final. They took third place in the B final. In the two following days, the World Rowing Cup I took place in Brest , in which Melita Abraham and her sister took part. You reached the B-final and could only take sixth and last place there. At the end of the season you took part in the Junior World Championships , which were held in Rio de Janeiro . There the duo reached the A-final, only had to admit defeat to the Russian duo in 7: 41.640 minutes and thus won the silver medal.

In the Olympic year, the duo of the two sisters was torn apart. While Antonia tried different boat classes, Melita Abraham became partner of Josefa Vila in the lightweight double scull . At the World Rowing Cup I , the duo took part in this competition together for the first time. For them it was only enough for the C final, and there they took third place. They achieved exactly the same placement at the World Rowing Cup II , which was held in Lucerne . Despite these achievements, they were nominated by the Comité Olímpico de Chile for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . On the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas the young duo also only reached the C-final and finished in fifth place with a time of 7: 46.990 minutes. Overall, they took 17th place.

The duo was disbanded after the Olympic Games. While Josefa Vila retained the lightweight double scull, Melita was allowed to start again with her sister Antonia Abraham. They both competed again at the U23 World Rowing Championships in 2016. In Rotterdam the siblings only reached the B final, which they could win. Before starting again at the U23 World Championships, they took part in the World Rowing Cup II , which took place in Poznan between June 16 and 18, 2017 . They reached the A-final and just missed the podium in a time of 7: 05.440 minutes with fourth place. At the U23 World Cup in 2017 in Plovdiv , Bulgaria , they reached the A-final and in a time of 7: 15.660 minutes they won the world title ahead of the Australian and US duo.

In 2018 the two sisters started again at the U23 World Championships , which this year were held in Poznan, Poland. After winning the title in the previous year, they reached the A-final and missed defending the title there in a time of 7: 34.140 minutes. During this time, however, they secured the bronze medal behind the American and British duo. After the U23 championships, they also took part in the 2018 World Rowing Championships on the Plovdiv rowing canal . There they did not start in a double without a helmsman , but in a double scull . They reached the C-final at the world championships and took second place in this. So they finished 14th overall.

Melita is a quadruplet of the Abraham family. The other quadruplets are Antonia Abraham , Alfredo Abraham and Ignacio Abraham , who are also Chilean rowers.
