Melnikowo ( Russian Ме́льниково ) is a village in Tomsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 8,377 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The village is located in the West Siberian lowlands , a good 50 km as the crow flies west of the Tomsk Oblast Administrative Center , about five kilometers from the left bank of the Ob , from which it is separated by a marshland, the Obskoje boloto , that extends along the river .

Melnikowo is the administrative center of Shegarsky Rajons and the seat of the rural community Shegarskoye selskoje posselenije , which also includes the villages of Naschtschokowo (714 inhabitants; about 3 km south of the center) and Staraya Schegarka (85 inhabitants; 4 km east, directly on the Ob). The total number of inhabitants in the municipality is therefore 9,176 (October 14, 2010).

history

The village of Schegarka am Ob, today's Staraya Schegarka ("Old Schegarka") was first mentioned in 1782 at the latest; at that time there were 15 farms there. According to other sources, the place already existed in 1616. At the end of the 19th century the population was 161.

In the 20th century a new settlement was built on the site of today's village, called Schegarskoje. In 1936 it became the administrative center of the newly created Schegarski district. In 1938 the village got its current name, while the Rajon kept the original name.

Melnikowo is the center of an agricultural area of ​​regional importance, with various factories for processing agricultural products. The gathering and processing of wild fruits also plays an important role.

The village is located on the regional road R398 from Tomsk to Kolpaschewo , which crosses the Ob on a 645 meter long bridge (Schegarski most) opened in 1987 and bypasses the town to the south. A few kilometers to the northwest, the R399 branches off to Baktschar , while in a southerly direction the left bank of the Oblast leads up a new road to the neighboring Novosibirsk Oblast , via Kolyvan to Novosibirsk - one of the two road connections between the Oblast Centers Tomsk and Novosibirsk.
