history

Races in 1955 and 1962

The Steckborn - Eichhölzli hill climb was officially mentioned for the first time in 1955. At that time, the media reported over 120 registered competitors in the various categories of standard and special touring cars , special sports cars , racing cars and racing cars . On April 23rd and 24th, the racing drivers had to cover a distance of 3.5 kilometers, an incline of maximum 4.25% and a difference in altitude of 143 meters from Steckborn up to Eichhölzli.

The second race was organized seven years later. On April 28 and 29, 1962, the same route as in 1955 was used. According to newspaper reports, 15,000 spectators attended the hill climb on Sunday. Due to the lack of hairpin bends and slow corners, the pace became too high for a hill climb. It was clear to the organizers that with the routing of 1955 and 1962 there would be no more races.

In 2005 the hill climb in Steckborn came up again. A small initiative committee and the Steckborn Economic Development Commission developed the idea of founding an association and a concept to foster the hill climb and memory anew. The Steckborn city council (executive) supported the initiative to revive the memory of the hill climb and its history. Last but not least, economic and marketing considerations convinced the authorities, associations and the population.
