Menzel is an agricultural district of the city of Rüthen in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . On December 31, 2014 the village had 383 inhabitants.

In the south of Menzel are Rüthen and Altenrüthen , in the west there is Effeln , in the north there are mountains and in the east there is Kellinghausen . The village of Menzel has an area of 8.15 km².
history
Menzel belonged to the Gogericht Rüthen in the Middle Ages . In 1802 the place came to the Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, in 1815 to the Kingdom of Prussia, in 1816 to the Lippstadt district and in 1826 to the mayor's office of Rüthen. In 1837 the community of Menzel was incorporated into the Altenrüthen office. On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Menzel was dissolved and joined to the city of Rüthen.

The three bus routes R62 Rüthen - Lippstadt, 672 Rüthen - Oestereiden and 558 Effeln / Oestereiden - Anröchte run through Menzel. The R62 is an hourly RegioBus, lines 558 and 672 only run in the morning and at noon on school days.
Buildings
In 1750, Moritz Anton von der Lippe zu Vinsebeck built today's "Haus Menzel" - the predecessor of which is mentioned in old sources as the "Großer Hof mit dem Steinhaus" - in the baroque style as a moated castle with moats that no longer exist today: it is A simple, clear single-wing building with a well-proportioned hipped roof , two (renewed) chimneys at the ridge ends and five small dormers. The slim corner cuboid underlines the structure.
Personalities
From 2009 to 2014 Silke Legler (SPD) was the mayor in Menzel. Stephan Rüther (CDU) was elected mayor in the 2014 local elections.

On March 31, 2011, the city council of Rüthen decided on a socio-ethical rehabilitation of those innocently convicted and executed in the area of today's city of Rüthen during the 16th and 17th centuries as part of the witch persecution.
