Mercury Topaz
The Mercury Topaz is the largely identical sister model of the Ford brand Mercury to the Ford Tempo , which followed closely in its development and was also introduced in May 1983. The front-wheel drive Topaz replaced the Mercury Zephyr . The equipment variants were called GS and LS.
In 1988 the Tempo received a facelift. In addition, the Topaz had its own roof line, which differed from that of the Tempo and was reminiscent of the contemporary Lincoln Continental in its shape . From then on, two sporty models, the Coupé XR5 and the sedan LTS, complemented the model range.
In 1992 the Topaz XR5 Coupé was replaced by a sedan of the same name, which, like the LTS, had the new three-liter V6.
A total of around 950,000 pieces of the Topaz were produced by spring 1994. He was replaced by the Mercury Mystique .
