Mercury Zephyr

The Mercury Zephyr was a two-, four- and five-door passenger car built in the USA from 1977 to 1983, which its manufacturer Ford Motor Company offered as a mid-range model under its Mercury brand . It differed from the Ford Fairmont only in details . All variants had double headlights. The Zephyr GS was another equipment line since 1981 . The parallel model to the Ford Fairmont Futura coupe was called the Zephyr Z-7 .

In some European markets, such as Switzerland, the Zephyr was sold by Ford-Werke AG in Cologne through interested dealers as "the economic American" who, with a length of almost 5 m, was "almost a European". The engine was made powerful by the six-cylinder engine with 3278 cm 3 and a power output of 70 kW (95 PS; 94 hp) and the optionally available V8 engine with 4117 cm 3 (255 in 3 ) and 86 kW (117 PS; 115 hp), which promised a top speed of 154 km / h (4.1-l: 169 km / h).

A total of 499,566 Zephyrs were built. Its successor was the Mercury Topaz .
