Gustav E. Lang

Gustav Eugen Lang (born November 19, 1866 in Heilbronn ; † November 3, 1951 in Stuttgart ) was a German historian , journalist and high school teacher. Most recently, as Ephorus , he headed the Maulbronn Evangelical Seminary . He was a great-grandson of the writer Carl Lang .

Life

His father was Philipp Lang, owner of the Neubauer pharmacy in Heilbronn, his mother Helene Hauck. After attending grammar school, Gustav E. Lang studied classical philology , history and art in Tübingen, Berlin, Munich and Strasbourg and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He made extensive trips through Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa. From 1895 he taught Greek, French, history and German at high schools in Württemberg. Lang belonged to the colleges of the Heilbronn Karlsgymnasium (until 1909) and the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart.

In the Reichstag election in 1912 , Lang ran as a representative of the Conservatives and the Federation of Farmers (unsuccessfully) in the constituency of Göppingen -Gmünd. During the First World War he served as a captain in the Landwehr in Flanders and in the Württemberg recruit depot. He was awarded the Iron Cross, Second Class.

Most recently, Lang worked as Ephorus of the Evangelical Seminary in Maulbronn and head of the educational institution until 1933 . He published various writings with a focus on Homer , Württemberg history and geography. He also published a biography of his great-grandfather Carl Lang (1911) as part of the series depictions from the history of Württemberg by Kohlhammer Verlag .

Gustav Lang had been married to Lina, daughter of construction clerk Hermann Ehmann , since 1902 . The marriage had four children.
