Mercury Monterey
The Mercury Monterey is an upper middle class passenger car from the US car manufacturer Mercury, which is part of the Ford group . Different models were produced between 1949 and 1974:
- From 1949 to 1951 a model variant of the Mercury was named Monterey.
- From 1951 to 1974, an upper mid- range model range from Mercury was named Monterey.
1949-1951
To the new, from various General Motors introduced brands Hardtop - coupes to oppose something, Mercury produced in these two model years under the name Monterey a variant of the regular coupe that a vinyl roof owned and a leather interior. Technically, they did not differ from the sister models.
1951-1974
From autumn 1951 the Monterey was an integral part of the Mercury model range and remained so until autumn 1974. Even after the introduction of smaller Mercury models from 1960 onwards, the Monterey always remained part of the brand's large full-size model range.
1951 to 1954, the Monterey was the top Mercury model over the base model called Mercury Custom. In 1955/1956 it was the middle model between Mercury Medalist and Montclair , in 1957 the basic model, in 1958 again the middle model, 1959/1960 again the basic model, 1961/1962 again the top model (above the Mercury Comet ), in 1963 all were called the big Mercury Monterey .
From 1964 to 1974, the Monterey consisted of the brand's large entry-level model, under the Montclair and Park Lane and, from 1969, its successor, the Marquis . From 1969 to 1974 a better equipped Monterey Custom replaced the previous Montclair.
Two- and four-door sedans, coupes and, until 1970, also a convertible, mostly powered by V8 engines, were offered. The station wagons of the large Mercury models were mostly, but not in all years, in their own series.
In 1975 a marquis with simpler furnishings took the place of the Monterey; from then on the former marquis was called Marquis Brougham.
