Mertuto ( Mirtutu , Mirtuto , Mertutu , Mertuti ) is an East Timorese suco in the Ermera administrative office ( Ermera municipality ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Mertuto had an area of ​​7.16 km². Now there are 5.37 km². The Suco is to the west of the Ermera administrative office. To the north are the Sucos Poetete and Talimoro , northeast of the Suco Riheu , southeast of the Suco Humboe and south of the Suco Leguimea . The southern border is formed by the Mauceun River in the southern part . The western part of the southern border is formed by the country road that connects the places Ermera and Hatolia Vila . The road forms an arch from the southern border and leaves in the direction of Ermera in Suco Poetete Mertuto. Coming from Ermera another overland road crosses the Suco Mertuto and leads into the Suco Humboe and on to the municipal capital Gleno . North of the road, the Buri River reaches the northern border of Mertuto, follows the border between the Suco and Talimoro and changes its name to Buro . Mauceun and buro are part of the Lóis system .

On the Ermera - Hatolia Vila road are the villages of Poehati , Railori ( Railurin ) and Apido ( Apidou ), to the west the town of Tatabauria ( Tatabaoria , Talabaoria ), on the road to Gleno the villages of Hatuleta and Pohei and to the southeast the town of Suileo . There are primary schools in Railori ( Escola Primaria No. 199 Mirtuto ) and in Suileo.

The four Aldeias Apido , Hotino , Railori and Tatabauria are located in the Suco .

Mertuto

1973 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 996 are men and 977 women. The population density is 367.3 inhabitants / km². There are 330 households in the Suco. Almost 86% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. Over 12% speak Mambai , a small minority speak Tetum Terik .

history

In 1997, FALINTIL commander Nino Konis Santana hid from the Indonesian army in a bunker under a house in Mertuto . A five-year-old boy named Kercoli provided him with water and food during this time. The high school in Gleno is therefore named after Santana. After Santana died in 1998, he was buried in Mertuto. In 2012 a discussion broke out because the Santanas family would like to transfer his bones to the family cemetery, which the inhabitants of Ermera were reluctant to do. On December 9th, Santana was finally exhumed. He found his final resting place in the National Heroes' Cemetery in Metinaro .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , António de Jesus was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won António Martins .
