The Messojacha ( Russian Мессояха ; also Messo-Jacha, Мессо-Яха ) is a 466 km long tributary of the Tasbusen in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia .

The Messojacha rises in the northeast part of the West Siberian lowlands , in the area of the Lower Yenisei mountain range, which extends south of the Gydan peninsula . The spring is located in the immediate vicinity of the border of the Autonomous Okrug with the Krasnoyarsk Territory , about 250 km west of Norilsk . It flows through the lowlands, mostly meandering strongly , finally in wide arches, mainly in a south-westerly direction. The river empties almost 200 km north of Novy Urengoy into the southeastern end of the Tasbusen of the Kara Sea , where it forms an approximately 1500 km² large delta , which connects directly to the northwest of the Tas Delta , opposite the Pur delta . Sredneje Messo and Schchuchja, the two largest estuaries next to the main arm Messojacha, flow into the Tasbusen about 10 and 40 kilometers east of the main arm. The large number of smaller estuary arms from the Messojacha main arm in a northerly direction empties up to 80 km away from it.

The catchment area of the river covers 26,000 km². The most important tributaries Njangusjacha (length 217 km), Njadajacha (288 km), Muduijacha (237 km), Indicjacha (242 km) and Mjarojacha (102 km) flow into the Messojacha from the left. The longest right tributaries are the Bolshaya Charwutajacha (96 km) and the Bolshaya Varkutajacha (97 km). The river usually freezes over for eight months a year, from mid-October to mid-June.

It is the spawning area for various salmon fish of the Coregonus genus .

The Messojacha flows through a lake-rich, marshy and sparsely populated area. There are no permanently inhabited places directly on the river; About 5 km west of the mouth of the main arm lies the settlement of Nakhodka on the banks of the Tasbusen . On the upper reaches of the Messojacha and its tributaries, the Messojachinskoje and Severo-Soljoninskoje gas fields have been exploited since the late 1960s and have been supplying the city of Norilsk with gas via a pipeline since 1973 .
