Methacrylic acid allyl ester is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters .
Extraction and presentation
Allyl methacrylate can be obtained by alcoholysis of methyl methacrylate with allyl alcohol in the presence of sodium methylate and hydroquinone , a polymerization inhibitor, or by esterification of the acid with allyl alcohol.
properties
Allyl methacrylate is a colorless liquid that is sparingly soluble in water.
use
Allyl methacrylate is used for the production of homo- and copolymers. The compound is also a very useful starting material for chemical synthesis because addition reactions take place with a large number of organic and inorganic compounds. Allyl methacrylate is used as a co-monomer for hard plastics, crosslinking agents or as a basic product for the production of silanes .
safety instructions
The vapors of allyl methacrylate can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point 33 ° C). To prevent polymerization, allyl methacrylate must always be stored in air and never under protective gases. The presence of oxygen is a prerequisite for the effective function of the stabilizer.
