Michael Carl-Eric Almebäck (born April 4, 1988 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish football player .

Career

Almebäck began playing soccer at Ängby IF before joining the youth department of IF Brommapojkarna in 2000 . There he went through the individual youth teams and moved up during the second division season in 2006 in the squad of the men's team. After his debut in the Superettan , he was at times a regular player and contributed to the club's first promotion to the Allsvenskan with eleven appearances. Here he was a supplementary player, in only one of his three first division games he was in the starting line-up. After the direct relegation, he stayed with the club, but continued to sit on the bench most of the time.

At the beginning of 2009, Almebäck therefore left his previous club and joined Örebro SK in Allsvenskan, where he signed a contract that was valid until the summer. Right away he was in the starting line-up at his new club and knew how to convince, so that in May he extended his contract to the end of 2011. Due to his good performance, which contributed to the establishment of the team supervised by Sixten Boström in the front midfield, he recommended himself for the Swedish U-21 national team , where he became a regular player during the season. National coach Erik Hamrén also honored his appearances and appointed him to the senior national team for the opening international matches in January 2010. In the 1-1 draw against the Syrian national team on January 23, he made his debut alongside the newcomers Joel Ekstrand and Emil Johansson in the defensive chain.

In the 2010 season , Almebäck was one of the surprises with Örebro SK. At the side of Patrik Anttonen , Magnus Kihlberg , Astrit Ajdarevic and Paulinho Guará , he finished third with the team and thus qualified for the UEFA Europa League . After he was eliminated with the U-21 selection only in the play-off games for the U-21 European Championship 2011 against the Swiss U-21 selection team , he returned to the national team in early 2011 and played against Botswana and Cyprus two more games in the national jersey. At the same time, he attracted attention when he rejected a contract offer from ÖSK to extend his expiring contract and toied with a move abroad.

In June 2011 Almebäck left Sweden after ten missions in the first third of the 2011 season . He signed a four-year contract with the Belgian club FC Bruges , who had previously signed his compatriot Fredrik Stenman . Here he played until the summer of 2013 when he joined Brøndby IF . For the whole of 2015 it was awarded to Esbjerg fB . Shortly after his return to Brøndby, he was permanently transferred to Örebro SK in January 2016 .
