Michael Gottlieb Agnethler

Michael Gottlieb Agnethler (born July 19, 1719 in Sibiu ; † June 15, 1752 in Helmstedt ) was a Transylvanian natural scientist and numismatist .

Life

Michael Gottlieb Agnethler, whose family was originally called Lang , was born on July 19, 1719 in Sibiu as the son of the pastor and headmaster Daniel Agnethler. From 1742 he studied at the University of Halle first theology , philosophy, mathematics, history and from 1746 medicine. In 1750 he received his doctorate in philosophy , and in the following year as a doctor of medicine . In 1750 he was accepted into the imperial academy of natural scientists. A short time later he was appointed professor of rhetoric and archeology at the University of Helmstedt . Agnethler died shortly after taking office on June 15, 1752 at the age of 32 of consumption , which he had suffered from since childhood. He had also published the four publications Systema Naturae , Fundamenta Botanica , Bibliotheca Botanica and Classes Plantarum by Carl von Linné .
