Michael Kongehl
Michael Kongehl (born March 19, 1646 in Kreuzburg, East Prussia ; † November 1, 1710 in Königsberg ) was a German lyric poet and playwright of the Baroque period .
Life
Michael Kongehl learned his schooling in Königsberg (in the Duchy of Prussia ) and enrolled in the theological faculty of the University of Königsberg in 1661 . A three-year educational trip across Germany brought him into contact with the Nuremberg Pegnitz shepherds , who accepted him as a member in September 1673 with the nickname “Prutenio”. In the two following years Kongehl stayed in Nuremberg again, where he visited the Order President Sigmund von Birken several times.
Without a doubt, the stay in Nuremberg was important for Kongehl's poetic development. The knowledge of Italian novelists and the acquaintance with forms of mystical piety had a decisive effect on his thoroughly original text production. In 1683 he returned to Königsberg and activated the refined Nuremberg poetics in the regional political situation there. He campaigned vehemently for the bourgeois position in the class and confessional disputes through the medium of text. He became councilor and eventually mayor of the city of Kneiphof / Königsberg. As a learned rhetorician in a situation-specific context, however, he was hardly or completely inappropriately evaluated from the outside; even the first enlighteners fundamentally misunderstood him and his work: Erdmann Neumeister named his work in 1695 as an example of a particularly unsuccessful type of poetry. Overall, Kongehl wrote numerous argute Kasualia, eclogues, epigrams and four dramas and a historical novel.
