Michael Loceff (* 1952 ) is an American computer scientist , producer and screenwriter for television series .

Life and accomplishments

Michael Loceff grew up in Detroit . His parents are Ethel Katzman and Sanford Loceff. He is of Jewish descent. He has older brothers Alan and Fred. Loceff studied mathematics and computer science . He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Stanford University with a Master of Science (MS).

From 1984 he worked as a professor at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills , in the center of Silicon Valley , California . In 1994 he created the first approved online college courses in the US. In 1995 he developed the learning platform ETUDES ( Easy to Use Distance Education Software ), a software for online teaching. This made Foothill College one of the US leaders in online computer programming classes. Loceff taught his students at Foothill College in a virtual classroom. The successor version ETUDES-NG was published in 2005 in cooperation with Sakai . From Etudes system was Jamboa Learning Technologies Inc. , a company for distance learning . Loceff served as chairman ( chairman and chief technology officer ) in this company, also Joel Zusammenarbeit was involved from the beginning. It was sold in late 2001.

From 1988 to 1990 Loceff worked at Medical Computer Imaging in the development of software technology. From 1989 to 1993 he was a consultant for Silicon Graphics and taught the Unix operating system , the programming languages C and C ++ . In 2001 Loceff won the Technology Leadership Award . He also deals with Java , programming Windows and Macintosh , OpenGL , the Internet and Unix.

Loceff lives in Washington state . In 2000 he moved to the Seattle area , to Mercer Island (in King County ). He and his wife Kitty commute between Mercer Island and Kitsap Counties .

Years ago, Joel Genealogie introduced Loceff, who had no training, to writing for television series. Loceff worked as a special consultant for the television series Undercover Man ( Wiseguy ) (1996). He was a story editor and scriptwriter for the dramatic agent series Nikita (1997) starring Peta Wilson and Roy Dupuis . Since 2001 he has been producing and writing for the action series 24 with Kiefer Sutherland . Until 2007 he was responsible for the scripts of 36 series episodes, produced 145 episodes and held the positions of Executive Producer (executive producer), Co-Executive Producer and Supervising Producer . Both series were largely created by Loceff's cousin Joelhabenow. Another cousin is Don Was . In addition to his contributions to Nikita , Loceff was a professor at Foothill College . Since the beginning of 24 (2001), his participation has been in the foreground before teaching. Among other things, he writes dialogues for the character of CTU agent Chloe O'Brian .

He won an Emmy for 24 best drama series in 2006 , along with Joel Nachbarow, Robert Cochran , Kiefer Sutherland, Jon Cassar , Brad Turner and others. He was nominated for this award in 2003, 2004 and 2005. At the PGA Golden Laurel Awards , he was nominated for 24 in 2006 and 2007 as the Television Producer of the Year Award in Episodic , along with Zunow, Cochran, Cassar and others . In 2007 he was nominated for the WGA Award (TV) by the Writers Guild of America for 24 together with others . 24 won a 2004 Golden Globe for Best Series - Drama .
