Michael McClune (born August 22, 1989 in Long Beach ) is a retired American tennis player . He played as a professional player on the ATP Challenger Tour .

Junior period

At junior level, McClune won numerous tournaments and was number one in the world rankings for various age groups. So he was number one in the U12, U16 and U18 in the world.

Professional career

At the tournament in San José in 2007, he played the qualifying rounds for an ATP tournament for the first time. He failed only in the third qualifying round on his compatriot Phillip King. After numerous unsuccessful futures tournaments, he dared to qualify for an ATP tournament two more times in Newport and Los Angeles , but both times he failed to qualify for the main round. This was followed by the US Open , where he received a wildcard from the tournament management and was in the main field of an ATP tournament for the first time. He lost his game against Juan Ignacio Chela clearly in three sets. By the end of the year, mainly more future tournaments followed, whereby he was able to win two tournaments and improve significantly in the tennis world rankings . At the beginning of the year he was at position 650, by the end of the year it was already position 421. In addition, McClune was in the final of the junior tournament of the Miami Masters in 2007, at the age of 18 . There he was defeated by the Japanese Kei Nishikori in three sentences . In 2008 he took part in the US Open for the first time in men's doubles . McClune currently lives in California . He was previously coached by Nick Fustar and mentored by former professional tennis player Taylor Dent . His parents are Mickey and Liz and his sister Kristin.
