Michael Menzel (* 1975) is a freelance illustrator and game designer .

Life

After training as a design assistant, he worked in computer game development for several years, for example working on the PC implementation of Die Sternenfahrer von Catan . His first illustration assignment for a board game was Manga Manga for Kosmos Spiele Verlag in 2004 . Since then he has made the graphic design of non-electronic games his profession. Between 2004 and 2006 he illustrated over 30 board and card games for around 10 publishers.

After editing the game graphics for the Catan Online World in 2007 , which has been in use since October 30, 2007, he first redesigned the graphics for the 3rd edition of the Catan board games and then the graphics for the cards for The Princes of Catan and its extensions redrawn. These appeared from autumn 2010.

In 2012, The Legends of Andor was released by Kosmos, the first board game completely newly developed by Michael Menzel. He also designed this graphically himself. In 2013 the game was named “ Kennerspiel des Jahres ”. For this game, at the suggestion of Michael Menzel , Gerhard Hecht developed the two-person game "The Legends of Andor - Chada & Thorn" in 2015 and Stefanie Schmitt wrote the novel "The Legends of Andor - The King's Song", which both also contributed Cosmos appeared.

Michael Menzel lives with his family in Krefeld on the Lower Rhine .
