Michael O'Reilly (* the thirtieth April 1993 ) is an Irish boxer in the middleweight division .

successes

He reached 5th place at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Yerevan and the 2010 World Youth Championships in Baku . In both competitions he won against Marcos Osorio from Puerto Rico, Shafiq Asif from England, Yunior Valdez from Cuba and Mitchell Buckland from Wales, and suffered his two defeats against Dan Aharonow from Israel and Vikas Krishan from India.

In 2011 he became Irish youth champion, won the Brandenburg Cup in Germany and was also voted the best boxer of the tournament. He had defeated the German Nimetula Abdulai (tKo), the Kazakhs Roman Schaylauow (21: 9), the Ukrainian Jewhen Barabanow (17: 9) and the Russian Arseni Pawlenko (19: 4). He also won the silver medal at the 2011 European Junior Championships in Dublin . After victories against Yevhen Barabanov, Damon Jones from England and Viktor Muraschkin from Belarus, he was defeated in the final just under 15:16 against Igor Kharitonov from Russia.

In 2014 he was Irish champion with a final victory against Darren O'Neill and won the silver medal at the EU championships in Sofia . Again he lost just 2-1 to French Christian Assomo in the final , after defeating Henrich Bagin, Gocha Baduraschwili and Balázs Bácskai .

In 2015 he won the Irish championship again and started at the 2015 European Games in Baku , where he again made it to the finals against Sanjin Vrgoč, Emir Šabotić, Aljaž Venko and Maxim Koptjakow . There he defeated Xaybula Musalov and thus won the gold medal.

In September 2015 he won the Chemistry Cup in Germany. He beat it in the semifinals Tomasz Jabłoński and in the final Bartosz Gołębiewski.

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he won a bronze medal after being eliminated in the semifinals against Bektemir Meliqoʻziyev . He had previously defeated Valery Kharlamov, Daniel Lewis and the reigning world champion Schänibek Älimchanuly . In June 2016 he qualified in Baku to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games . He had defeated Vitali Bondarenko from Belarus, Narmandakh Shinebayar from Mongolia, Kamran Şahsuvarlı from Azerbaijan, Wahid Abderredha from Iraq and Arslanbek Achilow from Turkmenistan.

doping

As the first athlete at the 2016 Olympic Games, he was tested positive for the banned substance metandienone and was therefore excluded from the Games. In February 2018, he was retroactively suspended for four years from competitions, which will last until July 2020.
