Michael Pfeuti

Michael "Michi" Pfeuti (born November 11, 1959 in Basel ) is a Swiss double bass player ( jazz and classical music ).

biography

Pfeuti grew up in Münchenstein (near Basel) and started playing bass guitar at the age of 11 . Initial training as a mechanic was followed by a Latin - Matura to the private Minerva Schools in Basel; Pfeuti then preferred to study at the University of Music at ETH and graduated with a concert diploma as a classical double bass player. He played one season with the Basel Symphony Orchestra , taught at the Basel City Music Academy and played live gigs in various bands. Pfeuti moved to the Cité des Arts in Paris on a grant from Sandoz , but soon returned to Basel. Another year abroad took him to Bali in 1994 .

After returning in 1995, Pfeuti played a few concerts with the Basel Sinfonietta before accepting a position as an upper level music teacher and teaching for three years. In 1999 two engagements followed in St. Petersburg , first with the orchestra of the State University , then as an on-board musician with a shipping company. Back in Basel, Pfeuti became a physics assistant at the  grammar school on Münsterplatz , where he met Chester Gill , who directed the school's jazz band; after his death he took over the management in 2003. Since 2013 he has also been employed as a full high school music teacher.

In the course of his career, Pfeuti played with countless greats on the Swiss jazz scene. He played with Sam Burckhardt and Nubya at Chester Gill's memorial service ; in the summer of 2003 he toured Switzerland with Stiller Has . More recently, Pfeuti has played in the Kraah Trio with Christian Zehnder and has accompanied readings by Guy Krneta and Pedro Lenz as part of the collective Bern is everywhere .
