Michael Starke

Michael Thomas Starke (* 1969 in Pegnitz , Upper Franconia ) is a German composer.

Live and act

Michael Starke completed a teaching degree for music and theology at the University of Bayreuth from 1991 to 1996 with Helmut Bieler, among others, and at the Munich University of Music . In 1995 he received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Foundation . Later on he studied composition with Volker Blumenthaler and singing with Sibrand Basa in Nuremberg.

In 1994 Starke co-founded the choir “Lingua Musica” in Pegnitz. Under his musical direction the choir performed Carmina Burana and Der Mond by Carl Orff , Orpheus and Eurydike by Christoph Willibald Gluck and Mozart's Requiem, among others . Starke also oversaw various music theater projects in cooperation with Theater Schall und Rauch in Pegnitz until 2006 .

Starke has been a teacher for music and Protestant religious studies at the Johannes Kepler secondary school in Bayreuth since 2001. Since 2007 he has been the second chairman of the Bayreuth Tonkünstlerverband .

Starke received various composition commissions and a. from the Francaix Ensemble , the Ensemble Musica viva and the Duo concertante .

  • 2001: 2nd prize at the VE Becker composition competition of the city of Bad Brückenau for the work "Psalm 23"
  • 2007: Culture Prize of the Bayreuth District with the choir "Lingua musica"
  • 2009, 2013, 2019: Winner of the composition competition of the Bavarian Tonkünstlerverein
  • 2009: Citizen Medal of the City of Pegnitz for voluntary cultural commitment
  • 2011: 3rd prize in the composition competition of the Tonkünstlerverband Würzburg for the work "Dunkler Traum"
