Michael Stiller (plasterer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Stiller (* around 1690 ; † around 1758/1759 ) was a Swabian plasterer , builder and bricklayer . He came from the Stiller family of plasterers from Ettringen . In contrast to his relatives, relatively little is known about Michael Stiller.

Life

The redesign of the Catholic parish church of St. Georg in Bedernau, a district of the municipality of Breitenbrunn , is ascribed to him in 1709/10 . From 1711 to 1713 he worked in Boos near Memmingen , where he rebuilt the nave and parts of the choir of St. Martin . In 1718/19 the new building of the Catholic parish church St. Georg in Kirch-Siebnach was built under his direction . In 1719 he was involved in the construction of the Rochus Chapel in Schwabmühlhausen . In 1724 the choir and tower of the Catholic parish church St. Peter and Paul in Oberigling were built under his direction . In 1729 he expanded the Heilig Kreuz church in Klimmach by adding side chapels and in 1736/37 he redesigned the parish church of St. Martin in Lamerdingen in Baroque style . His father Matthias Stiller had already worked on both structures in previous years. In the last year of his life he built the baroque parish church in Schwabmühlhausen.

Many other sacred buildings in the Upper Swabian region bear Stiller's signature. As a master builder, he carried out the Baroque renovation of the interior of the late Gothic Church of the Assumption in Markt Wald and built the pilgrimage chapel of St. Anthony of Padua in the district of Schnerzhofen. Church buildings on which he worked as a plasterer include St. Maria and Florian in Waltenhofen, St. Alban in Walkertshofen , St. Andreas in Babenhausen and St. Ulrich in Aichen, where he also created the ceiling frescoes.

family

He was the son of Matthäus (also Matthias) Stiller, the builder of the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Großaitingen . Stiller was married three times and from these marriages had 13 sons and three daughters. The father's trade seem to have been practiced by the sons Adam († 1766), Joseph and Martin. The latter was from 1785 to 1787 the builder of the nave of the Catholic parish church St. Martin and Nikolaus in the hometown of Ettringen.
