Michaela Konrad (* 1972 in Graz ) is an Austrian illustrator and artist .

life and work

Michaela Konrad's work includes paintings, graphic works and experimental comics. She mostly works in sequences. Several multimedia comic installations are created. a. for Ars Electronica and for the Nextcomic Festival in Linz. She combines the striking and illustrative painting style typical of Pop Art with elements of American comic classics from the 50s and 60s. In terms of content, her work differs from these stylistic influences. Natural sciences are just as much a source of inspiration for her work as art history, metaphysics or contemporary history.

Michaela Konrad works in Santa Cruz ( Tenerife ) and in Vienna .

style

Konrad draws very reduced and focused on the essentials. Her intention is to combine art and comics. Press reviews on her book Mondwandler:

"The combination of powerful, luminous signal colors in front of black and gray backgrounds skillfully visualizes the dissonance between a lifeless planet and the astronauts' research efforts, which stem from human vitality."

- Oliver Ristau : Der Tagesspiegel

"You are only too happy to float in this calm river, and at a certain point you begin to feel the weightlessness, the emptiness and the silence of the universe on your own body."

- Jan Westenfelder : Strapazin

"You literally float through the room while reading."

- Christian Meyer : Choices
