Michael Nikolayevich Romanov
Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia ( Russian Михаил Николаевич , scientific. Transliteration Mikhail Nikolaevich ; born October 13 . Jul / 25. October 1832 greg. In Peterhof in St. Petersburg , † December 5 jul. / 18th December 1909 greg. In Cannes ) was the fourth son of Tsar Nicholas I and Charlotte of Prussia .
From 1862 to 1882 he was Governor General of Transcaucasia . In the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) he was Commander-in-Chief of the Russian troops in the Caucasus and was appointed Field Marshal General in April 1878 . After the death of Alexander II in 1881 he was succeeded by Alexander III. instead of his older brother Constantine appointed chairman of the State Council and held this office until his death.
On August 16, Jul. / August 28, 1857 greg. He married Princess Cäcilie von Baden (1839-1891), who took the name Olga Fjodorovna and with whom he had the following children:
