The first "Mike Hammer" series with Stacy Keach in the title role of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer was preceded by two television films by director Gary Nelson: Mike Hammer - Murder on Demand (OT: Murder Me, Murder You ), which was made in the United States on April 9, 1983 on CBS and in German-speaking countries on July 11, 1991 on Sat.1 and Mike Hammer - A Murder Is Not Enough (OT: More Than Murder ), which was broadcast in the United States on January 26, 1984 CBS and was first broadcast in German-speaking countries on January 11, 1987 on Sat.1.

The first broadcast of The New Mike Hammer or the third season took place from September 27, 1986 to May 13, 1987 on the US broadcaster CBS . The German-language first broadcast took place from January 6th to May 4th, 1988 on the station Sat.1 , whereby not all episodes were broadcast. Episodes 4, 11, 15, 20 and 22 were only shown on Sat.1 in 1990. Episode 5 didn't appear on Kabel Eins until 1999 .
