The Mignon is a river in France that runs in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It rises in the municipality of Villeneuve-la-Comtesse , generally drains in a north-westerly direction, runs through part of the Marais Poitevin marshland below Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon and flows 41 kilometers into the Sèvre Niortaise at Bazoin as a left tributary . On its way the Mignon crosses the Départements Charente-Maritime and Deux-Sèvres and in some parts also forms the border between them.

shipping

The river is canalized from the mouth at Bazoin to Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon and is also referred to in some documents as the Canal du Mignon . Ships with a shallow draft can switch from the Sèvre Niortaise to the Mignon and travel 17 kilometers upwards. There are four locks on the Mignon with the dimensions 31.50 × 5.10 meters. From the confluence to just above La-Grève-sur-Mignon, the normal water depth is 1.20 meters, but at low tide it drops to 0.60 meters. In the upper areas one has no more than 0.60 meters even under normal conditions, locally sometimes only 0.40 meters at low tide. While these depths are not enough for large motor cruisers, they are suitable for the area's flat-bottomed river boats that ply the Sèvre Niortaise and its tributaries.
