Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez (born September 17, 1949 in Granada ) is a Spanish conductor and composer .

He stood at the conductor's podium for the first time at the age of seven. He then completed his musical training at the conservatories in his hometown and in Madrid , which he completed with masterclasses in the USA and studies with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna .

An international career has now taken the conductor to all the major opera houses in the world. He has conducted at the Vienna State Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , in Paris , at Covent Garden London, in Milan , at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and in Buenos Aires . As a guest conductor he led a. a. the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig , the Staatskapelle Dresden , the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , the Vienna Philharmonic and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra .

He was chief conductor of the Spanish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Madrid (1984–1987), the Madrid Opera (1985–1991) and the Basque National Orchestra San Sebastian (1989–1993), GMD at the Mannheim National Theater (1990–1993), at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki (1993–1996) and with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra (1992–2000). Then he was at the Bern Opera and conductor of the Valencia Orchestra . In the 2004/05 season he took over conducting again at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Since 2004 he has been at the podium of the International Young Orchestra Academy (IJOA) every Easter . With the international selection orchestra he rehearsed Gustav Mahler's 2nd symphony “Resurrection Symphony” in 2004 , the 4th symphony in 2005 and the 7th symphony in 2006 by Anton Bruckner and in 2007 Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony . In 2008 he performed the 2nd Symphony by Johannes Brahms with the IJOA as part of the Bayreuth Easter Festival and the Easter Festival Nördliche Oberpfalz. The proceeds from the benefit concerts went to help children with cancer.

In 1995 he was awarded the Commander's Order by the Spanish King Juan Carlos for his artistic commitment .
