Michael Domenec
Michael Domenec CM (born December 27, 1816 in Reus , Tarragona province , Spain , † January 5, 1878 in Tarragona ) was Bishop of Allegheny .
Life
Michael Domenec's family had to leave Spain for political reasons and settled in France . Domenec attended school in Montolieu . There Michael Domenec joined the religious order of the Lazarists and made his perpetual profession on December 28, 1834 . He received on June 30, 1839 sacrament of Holy Orders .
In 1845 Michael Domenec was sent to the United States to help set up St. Vincent's Seminary in Philadelphia . He became pastor of the parishes of St. Stephen in Nicetown and St. Vincent de Paul in Germantown .
On September 28, 1860 Pope Pius IX appointed him . to the Bishop of Pittsburgh . The Archbishop of Baltimore , Francis Patrick Kenrick , donated him episcopal ordination on December 9 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Pittsburgh , Richard Vincent Whelan , and the Bishop of Wheeling , Joshua Maria Young . On January 11, 1876 Pius IX appointed him. to the Bishop of Allegheny. The inauguration took place on March 19 of the same year. On July 22, 1877 Michael Domenec resigned as Bishop of Allegheny.
Michael Domenec attended the First Vatican Council .
