Mike Nahar (born May 7, 1971 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch basketball player and coach.

Player career

Nahar comes from Haarlem in the Netherlands and went to school in Alkmaar . He left his homeland and went to the United States. There he linked his scholarship to Wright State University with basketball. In particular, between 1992 and 1994, he triumphed on the university team: in 1992/93 he scored an average of 16.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per encounter, then in 1993/94 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds. In the 1994/95 season he began his professional career in Portugal, where he quickly became one of the best centers in the first Portuguese league in the 1995/96 season at Benfica Lisbon with 16 points and 8 rebounds on average and his first national team in 1996 Championship. This made top European teams aware of him, so that he then played for two years each at Aris and Iraklis Thessaloniki . In 1998 he won Aris' first international title with the Korac Cup , but Nahar was rarely used in the two finals against Tofaş Bursa. In 2000 he moved to the first Italian division for BingoSNAI Montecatini. He was on the field for Montecatini in 30 league games and scored an average of 7.4 points per game. For the 2001/02 season he went back to Greece, moved to Dafni Athens. Here his statistical values ​​tied in with the time in Lisbon. In 2002/03 Nahar was under contract with the Belgian club BC Ostend , but was not used as desired due to problems with the coach there. With GHP Bamberg, the Dutch international was 2003/04 German runners-up , moved to the season for Greek first division club Panellinios Athens, which he, however, after a brief stay left with seven games in December 2004 again and even in the current season with Brose Bamberg German champion was . In the 2005/06 season he scored an average of 6.4 points in the league and conquered 2.9 rebounds per game, while in the ULEB Cup he came to 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per match. He spent the last years of his playing career in his home country. In January 2008 he ended his professional sports career.

In the Dutch national basketball team, he was considered a leading player in the European Championship qualification from 1997 to 2005.

Coaching career

In the years 2008 to 2013 Nahar acquired the B-trainer license in Alkmaar as well as the fitness trainer license, became a running therapist and, in between, assistant trainer of the Dutch men's national basketball team. From 2013 to 2014 he was an assistant coach with the Den Helder Kings until they went bankrupt. Since 2015 he has been organizing the summer camp in Den Helder with other Dutch basketball players . By chance Nahar met his predecessor in the basketball department of Heidenheimer SB , Faizal Pasaribu, exchanged ideas with him and became his successor. After just two years, he celebrated promotion to the third highest league, the Regionalliga Südwest, with the first women's team.
