Milan is a village in the skirt Iceland County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen State of Illinois and part of the metropolitan area around the Quad Cities . In 2000 Milan had 5,257 inhabitants.

Milan is located on the Rock River just before it flows into the Mississippi River , which forms the border with Iowa .

US Highway 67, coming from Rock Island over the Rock River, runs through Milan in a north-south direction . In the south of the city this crosses Interstate 280 , which forms the southern bypass of the Quad Cities.

The center of the neighboring city of Rock Island is 7 km north of Milan, Davenport , the largest city of the Quad Cities is 9.5 in the same direction.

Chicago 279 km to the east, Iowa's capital Des Moines is also 279 km to the west and Illinois' capital Springfield is 268 km to the south.

In the 2000 census, the population was 5,348. These were distributed over 2,310 households in 1,457 families. The population density was 374.6 / km². There were 2,379 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 165.9 / km².

The population in 2000 was 92.5% white , 4.3% African American , 0.2% American Indian , 0.4% Asian and 1.1% other. 1.4% said they came from at least two of these groups. 2.9% of the population were Hispanics belonging to any of the above groups.
