Milen Atanassow Dobrew ( Bulgarian Милен Добрев , born February 22, 1980 in Plovdiv ; † March 21, 2015 ibid) was a Bulgarian weightlifter .

Career

Dobrew celebrated his greatest success at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , where he won the gold medal with 407.5 kg in the weight class up to 94 kg.

For Bulgaria he also won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Cup with a total weight of 382.5 kg, the silver medal at the 2002 World Cup with 387.5 kg, the gold medal at the 2003 World Cup with 405 kg and the bronze medal at the 2005 World Cup with 398 kg. At the European Championships, Dobrew won a silver medal in 2002 and two gold medals in 2003 and 2004.

Dobrew died of a heart attack in 2015 at the age of 35 after several stays in rehabilitation clinics to which he had gone for years of alcohol dependence.
