action
Mili is a young woman who infects people around her with her happiness. Only her new neighbor Shekhar doesn't want to know anything about any of this. He has been traumatized since his mother's death and is addicted to alcohol. Even when Shekhar's neighbors marginalize him, Mili tries to awaken Shekhar's zest for life.
At first Shekhar doesn't think much of their kindness, but they soon warm his cold heart. However, he has no idea of Mili's fate, because Mili is seriously ill. When he finally found out about it, he had already fallen in love with her. He toyed with the idea of running away because he couldn't see Mili die. But his love is too big and so he proposes to her instead. After the wedding, they fly abroad to have Mili treated there.

criticism
Mukherjee's 70s films were always characterized by this: half art, half mainstream cinema - and "Mili" is a successful example of this. (from molodezhnaja.ch)
