Mimic 3: Sentinel is after Mimic (1997) and Mimic 2 (2001) the third installment in an American horror film series and was released on DVD in 2003. All three parts are based on Donald A. Wollheim's short story Mimic . Based on Hitchcock's classic Das Fenster zum Hof , in the third part the observations of a handicapped backyard resident through his lens become the linchpin of the story.
action
The asthmatic Marvin Montrose lives with his sister and mother in the side wing of an apartment building. Due to illness, his radius of action is mostly limited to his room. He passes the time by observing the neighbors through his camera lens and documenting their lives.
Strange events in the yard one day arouse Marvin's detective interest. The garbage man across the street seems to be involved in some kind of machinations, possibly even homicides. A dealer and a 7-year-old boy have already disappeared without a trace. Marvin lets his sister Rosy and her friend Carmen in on his thoughts. The two girls ambitiously begin their own investigations, but are stupidly caught by the garbage collector while they are searching his apartment. Carmen and Rosy don't give up because of this mishap. One evening after dark they overhear four men in the yard, including the garbage man. The object in a clear plastic bag is a topic of conversation. Sufficient cooling is required, it is said. Then a dark figure approaches them from behind. She first tramples over Rosy, then the insect-like man-high creature falls on the men and slaughters them down. Marvin is watching from his window. Only the garbage collector can get into the car that the men came with. The giant insect lets go of him when he releases a live pigeon out of the window.
Then the garbage man turns to Carmen and Rosy, who are still in shock in the yard. He puts the unusable, injured Rosy in the trunk of the car and takes Carmen up to Marvin's apartment. She should assist him, ie carry the bag. Meanwhile, Marvin calls the police. He is certain to have recognized two specimens of the Judas breed (a cross between a termite and a praying mantis) through his lens. The viewer saw a non-fiction book on this topic beforehand in his room.
The pigeon only distracted the murderous insects briefly. They are already on the trail of Judasei (a fertile male and as such particularly valuable), which Carmen carries into the house in the said plastic bag at the garbage man's orders. Since the bag has a hole, a liquid drips onto the bottom. At least one of the insects follows this trail unnoticed. From Marvin's apartment, the garbage man now also notifies the disaster control. The animals are said to have spread under the city, he speculates. Nevertheless, he refuses to destroy the Judasei from which a new colony of this dangerous species can arise. Before he can disappear with the egg, which is supposed to make him a fortune, the insects butcher him with their saber-like extremities . Marvin can take the egg in a brief moment of rest and destroys it by blowing it up in the hot oven along with some of his oxygen bottles. He protects himself by hiding in the quickly cleared refrigerator. Marvin, Rosy and Carmen survive the massacre; the arriving security forces bring the three to safety.
