John Kapelos (* 8. March 1956 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian - American actor .

Life

The native Canadian with Greek roots began his career on the theater stage and was a member of the well-known theater group The Second City in Chicago from 1978 to 1982 . He has also performed on Off-Broadway in New York City . The actor began his film career in 1981 with a small role as a mechanic in the film The Loner . He played one of his best-known roles as the life-savvy caretaker Carl in the 1985 teen comedy The Breakfast Club by John Hughes . He was also involved with Das ist aber als Grossen (1984) and LISA - Der Bright Wahnsinn (1985) starred two other teenage Hughes films.

To date, John Kapelos has appeared as an actor in over 180 film and television productions. While he did not get beyond supporting roles in movies, he also took on one of the leading roles as Detective Schanke in the television series Nick Knight - Der Vampircop (1992-1996). Other film projects in which he has worked include Nothing in Common (1986), Roxanne (1987) and Internal Affairs - Trust him, he's a cop (1990). There are also a number of guest appearances on television series, including Desperate Housewives , Queer as Folk , The X Files , Seinfeld and CSI: On the Trail of the Criminals .
