biography

Agossi, whose mother comes from France and father from Bénin , was sponsored by Archie Shepp at the beginning of her career . In her youth she lived with her mother, a math professor, in Niger , Morocco and the Ivory Coast . She began her career as a stage actress; In 1993 she sang in a swing and New Orleans jazz band, with whom she toured France and Ireland. Eventually she shifted stylistically to modern jazz and from then on recorded under her own name. Since then she has been working in a trio of vocals, double bass and drums and combines jazz with various musical elements such as chanson and rock music ; In addition to her own compositions, she also recorded cover versions of Monk'sWell You Needn't ”, Jimi Hendrix 's “Voodoo Chile”, Pink Floyd's “Money” or the Beatles song “ And I Love Her ”. After years in Spain, she returned to France and moved to the UK in 1993, where she worked with Vincent Guérin .

After the album Bass & Voice , she became increasingly known in the French jazz scene and also performed in the United States. In 2001, under the impression of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the live album EZ Pass to Brooklyn with Alexander Hiele (bass) and Bertrand Perrin (drums) was created in New York, on which she borrowed stylistically from hip-hop and R&B . Since her album Well You Needn't (2005), which she recorded for Candid , she has been accompanied by Ichiro Onoe (drums) and Eric Jacot (bass). In 2007 she performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and in 2008 at New York's Blue Note . In 2010 she worked with the guitarist and composer Phil Reptil ( Just Like a Lady ).
