Mindripper (Original title: The Outpost ), also known under the names The Hills Have Eyes Part III and Wes Cravens Mindripper is an American film directed by Joe Gayton, which was released in 1995. It was produced by Wes Craven, among others .
action
Stockton and his crew, who work for Gentec, discover an almost dead man who had jumped off a cliff in front of their research facility in the desert . After a short back and forth they decide to inject the critically injured man with a virus that is supposed to keep him alive. The virus ensures that the cells regenerate independently. However, the patient remains in a comatose state.
A few months later, Stockton resigned after learning that Gentec was working with the US Army to breed a new breed of super soldier. When he was about to go on a camping trip with his children, he received a call from his old colleagues. Thor (for Transmuted Human ORganism), as they christened the test subject, has awakened from his coma. With a Wilga 35 , he makes his way to the research laboratory together with his son Scott, daughter Wendy and their friend Rob.
In the meantime, Thor has killed two members of the team. Alex has usurped the command and forces Joanne and Mark to capture the mutant. Although he is overwhelmed, he manipulates the security lock at the last second so that the three cannot escape. Thor grabs Alex and eats his brain. It needs a chemical that is in human brains. Mark later also becomes a victim of the mutant.
Meanwhile, Stockton and his family entered the laboratory. By chance Scott meets the mutant, but Stockton is able to save him, but is kidnapped himself. The remaining members of the family now forge a plan together with Joanne to stop the monster. They lock it in a cold room, but Rob dies in the process. They are now looking for Stockton to cut off his hand, which they need to open the door lock. However, contrary to expectations, he is alive and the four of them initially flee in a van . However, Thor escaped from the research facility. Scott manages to cut off the tongue that Thor eats. Now they flee by plane, but Thor is already here too. The four manage to overpower him and he falls down to the earth. The final frame of the film shows the twitching hand of Thor's shattered body.
background
Mindripper is marketed in some countries, including Germany and the USA, as the third part of Hill of Bloody Eyes . However, it has nothing to do with the original film, only the desert location is reminiscent of the first part. Wes Craven, the director of Hill of Bloody Eyes , only produced the film, the script is by his son Jonathan Craven.
In Germany, the film started in the television program on the pay-TV channel Premiere in 1996 and then on RTL 2 . A cut version was shown in each case. Only the VHS label Screen Power ensured an unabridged VHS edition. It also appeared in the unabridged The Hills Have Eyes box together with Hill of Bloody Eyes and In Death Valley of the Wolves , which was also published in Austria.
Reviews
"Third-rate horror film with awkward actors and an easily readable book that just clumsily copies the Frankenstein story of the monster and its creator."
“The story of" Wes Craven's Mindripper "doesn't necessarily sound original, and this flick isn't much more than a B-movie . People who, however, do not attach great importance to big Hollywood cinema, should surely find a quite entertaining change with the film. "Wes Craven's Mindripper" is a really entertaining film that is only slightly devalued by a few short lengths. "
