The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), in Māori Manatū Aorere , is a ministry and Public Service Department in New Zealand responsible for the country's foreign policy and trade .

The ministry is led and controlled by two ministers, on the one hand Winston Peters ( New Zealand First ), who is Minister of Foreign Affairs , and on the other hand David Parker ( New Zealand Labor Party ), who is Minister for Trade and Export Growth is responsible for foreign trade.

tasks and goals

The ministry, which has outposts in 53 countries around the world, sees itself as the main representative of the New Zealand government for the pursuit of the interests of the country and the international representation of New Zealand and leads the diplomatic network of the government. The heads of missions and ministries have the formal mandate to represent the state.

The Ministry makes itself available as a specialist advisor to the government on foreign, trade and development policy, as an international legal advisor and negotiator for the government. It is also responsible for international development cooperation and for providing consular services to New Zealanders overseas.

The aim is all formulated to give New Zealand citizens more security through the activities of the ministry and to make them more prosperous.
