Misrikh-cum-Neemsar ( Hindi : मिस्रिख-कम-नीमसार; often just Misrikh Neemsar ) is a small town in the center of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh , southwest of Sitapur .
The city consists of the two districts Misrikh ( Hindi : मिस्रिख; Urdu : مسرکھ نیمسر) and Neemsar (Hindi: नीमसार; also Naimisharanya , Nimsar or Nimkhar ), about 10 kilometers away .
Misrikh is known for the Hindu sage Maharishi Dadhichi Maharaj , who founded his ashram in the city .
In Neemsar is the eponymous temple Neemsar, which is one of 108 Vishnu temples in the Naalayira Divya Prabhandham assembly . This temple is also one of the eight Vishnu temples known as Swayamvyaktha Kshetra .

Both districts are in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on the same highway between Sitapur and Hardoi ; Misrikh is closer to Sitapur, while Neemsar is closer to Hardoi and the Gomti River . A little further south-east is Lucknow , the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The city lies in the Ganges plain and in the catchment area of the Ganges .
population
At the 2001 census, Misrikh-cum-Neemsar had 15,163 inhabitants . Of these, 53 percent were men and 47 percent women; the literacy rate was 65 percent, higher than the Indian average of 59.5 percent. There is a clear difference between the sexes. While the literacy rate for men is 71 percent, it is only 58 percent for women. 15 percent of the city's population was under 6 years old in 2001.

Misrikh-cum-Neemsar is very homogeneous in religious terms. 96 percent of the population profess Hinduism , other religions only make up small proportions.

In addition to a trunk road to Sitapur, both Misrikh and Neemsar have their own train station . The nearest international airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport near Lucknow .
